THE PROJECT
A photoshoot for BlackBoard Magazine’s Renaissance Issue (Fall 2019) which highlights the ways in which Black creatives express their unique experiences through various artistic mediums. As the lead photographer on the project, I was tasked with capturing photographs reflective the vision of myself and the other magazine editors.
THE PROCESS
Creatives (including a design engineer, fashion journalist, and dancer) were selected as models with a 2:1 ratio of males to females representing the dominance of male creatives in Black creative spaces. Additionally, a brick background was utilized to pay homage to the urban settings of the Harlem Renaissance.
THE PRODUCT
The product was a gallery of photographs reminiscent of the scenes of the Harlem Renaissance. Focusing on the deep reds, browns, and blacks highlighted in Harlem Renaissance works, the shoot encapsulated the essence of the issue as it showcased the faces of some Black creatives.
