THE PROJECT
A photoshoot for BlackBoard Magazine’s Spring 2019 issue highlighting the beautiful, yet complex, relationship between black bodies and mother nature. As lead photographer and creative director on the project, I was challenged to bring this theme to life.
THE PROCESS
The creative team, including myself, conducted a model caIl in which models with diverse backgrounds and relationships with nature were chosen. I chose fixate the project on the natural, yet rare, occurrence of the color blue in nature. This rarity mirrors the disproportionate limitation of access to natural resources for many members of the black community rooted in the universal environmental injustice faced broadly by marginalized communities.
THE PRODUCT
The photoshoot culminated in an aesthetically pleasing and thought-provoking visual statement that juxtaposes the purity of white, the serenity of blue, and the beauty of brown.
